Armstrong World Industries, Inc., has a job opportunity for a Production Manager to be located at our Plasterform, Inc. subsidiary in Mississauga, Ontario. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for providing focused technical support and leadership to our Toronto operations in the areas of process improvement, EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) and quality.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead and drive a continuous improvement culture in the areas of environment, health, safety, capacity, customer service, cost reduction and quality

  • Coordinate and continually improve the safety program for the operation, and monitor work processes and procedures to drive team performance toward departmental and organizational goals

  • Perform accident/incidents investigations and facilitate the development of root cause corrections

  • Manage the plant's industrial hygiene programs and ensure compliance with internal and external safety and health regulations and policies

  • Work with external consultants to manage plant's environmental and safety reporting including regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements

  • Ensure compliance of product attributes to technical specifications and requirements

  • Lead process optimization, root cause analysis and driving practical knowledge of science and technology into all levels of the manufacturing organization for improved plant performance

  • Plan and conduct factory tests to follow through on cost reduction and New Product Development opportunities

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in Lean Manufacturing principles, to identify and improve 5S, plant capacity, and creation of managing systems

  • Create, refine, educate and implement standard work, data collection systems and process adherence throughout the workforce

  • Support efforts to improve the “Total Customer Experience”; including lead-time reduction, fill rate improvement, and product quality

  • Continually coach production operators in safety practices and the use of process control techniques

  • Support and participate in functional networks

/Required qualifications and skills/

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university

  • 3+ years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Well developed computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and statistical analysis programs such as Minitab

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; team player

  • Experience in industrial health and safety incident reporting, root cause analysis, and risk assessment

  • Ability to read 2D shop drawings

  • Experience in production scheduling and management

  • Self-starter with a strong ability to multi-task and juggle multiple responsibilities

  • Experience with the application of Lean methodologies

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment (i.e. Ability to wear required PPE, work in a dusty, hot, non-climate controlled environment; with stairs, frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting of material)

  • Ability to work off shift hours in support of plant initiatives

/Desired qualifications and skills/

  • Experience in the construction industry and/ or construction project management

  • Experience as a general foreman or supervision role

  • Experience leading a Quality Management System
