About Putnamville Correctional Facility :

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Putnamville Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium-security Correctional facility for adult males. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is located in Greencastle, Indiana. The Putnamville Correctional Facility, established in 1914, was known for nearly 70 years as the Indiana State Farm and has been the recipient of several environmental awards. The facility offers educational and work training programs, including training in coding and visual and audio programming through The Last Mile, and other programs focused on education and parenting.

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

​The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supervise Classification, Release, Offender Records area.

  • Supervise intra-facility assignments, reassignments, and processes in accordance with classification administrative policies and procedures.

  • Approve or deny re-entry classification recommendations as applicable.

  • Provide classification support, recommendations, and expertise to all facility management levels.

  • Develop and administer facility operational procedures related to classification, releases, and records.

  • Process inter-facility transfer requests to the appropriate Central Office Classification Analyst.

  • Provide classification training to various staff multiple times a year.

  • Ensure offenders are informed of decisions and the required documentation is completed and filed in the offender’s records.

  • Maintain an ongoing review of the Offender Management System (OMS) and related software systems.

  • Recruit, evaluate, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing corrective actions and opportunities to continue professional development.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • ​High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

  • Five (5) years full-time experience in corrections, criminology, parole or probation work or related areas.

  • Substitutions: Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.

  • Broad knowledge of IDOC mission, administrative and facility policies and procedures applicable to areas of responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of Indiana Criminal Code.

  • Extensive knowledge of the correctional classification and release process, including sentencing and credit time statues and sentencing alternatives.

  • Extensive knowledge of Offender Management System and related software programs.

  • Ability to complete the Certification of Credit Time Calculations and Central Office Inservice Training.

  • Ability to complete related training offered by Correctional Training Institute.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
