Job Summary & Deliverables

The Autism Assistant assists in the delivery of comprehensive educational and developmental support to children and adolescents with autism in a classroom setting. The Assistant works closely with the Autism Specialist and contributes to the design and implementation of treatment programs and education materials. The Assistant assists clients in acquiring essential skills and behaviors necessary for success in their home and community environments.

  • Rate increases based upon years of experience

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Autism Specialist in developing individualized programs for children and adolescents with autism; focuses on enhancing social, communication, and behavioral skills
  • Assumes leadership responsibilities in the classroom when the Autism Specialist is unavailable; ensures a structured and productive learning environment for students
  • Assists clients with active participation during classroom activities, skills groups, and educational outings; supports individual abilities and needs
  • Supports the treatment team by implementing behavioral techniques and procedures; promotes academic and therapeutic structure in the classroom
  • Implements therapeutic interventions aimed at fostering self-management, communication, and social skills with clients
  • Maintains progress notes to document the ongoing evaluation of client strengths and areas for improvement; meets data collection requirements for the Electronic Health Record system
  • Provides feedback and recommendations to the treatment plan to assist in the development of treatment and behavioral intervention planning
  • Ensures client well-being by assisting with hygiene responsibilities as required
  • De-escalates clients appropriately and safely
Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 months direct client care experience
  • Previous autism teaching/classroom leading or special education teaching experience (preferred)
