Job Summary

Job Summary

Conducts economic and policy research. Works with the economic research team to research and analyze Utah’s economy and other topics; analyze data; help conduct economic impact studies and economic forecasting; and create/maintain visualizations, dashboards, and other research and data products. Participates in preparing scopes of work, conducting research, and writing reports. Ensures continuity and quality customer service between University departments and community. Collaborates with a professional staff to help business and community leaders, and the public at large, make informed decisions.

Problem Solving

The problems and solutions encountered by this position vary depending on the area and structure of the department. This position frequently addresses problematic situations and often acts a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of the customers and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs.

Comments

The incumbent must be proficient in making daily operational decisions in assigned area to ensure compliance of current regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct economic and public policy research. This includes aiding economic impact studies and economic forecasting projects.

  2. Clean and analyze data for trends and insights.

  3. Create data visualizations and dashboards using Excel, programming, and other software tools.

  4. Present research highlights, data, and analysis to clients, business and community leaders, and the public.

  5. Ensure customer satisfaction by analyzing customer concerns and suggestions. Provide appropriate follow-through to ensure quality customer service.

  6. Facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships with clients, community, campus partners, and other institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, public policy, or public administration, or a related area,; two years work experience; experience with Microsoft Excel; human relations and effective communication skills .

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the Utah economy and public sector; master’s degree in economics, statistics, public policy, or public administration, or a related area; four years work experience ; familiarity with R, Python, and Tableau.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
