Join the mission-driven Newborn Section, Operations Unit of the Public Health Laboratory. The Newborn Screening Section aims to identify rare, serious disorders before symptoms appear so that affected infants can receive prompt diagnosis and treatment, which leads to better outcomes for the infants and their families. The Management Analyst provides administrative support to the Newborn Screening program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administer ongoing activities, assessments of Newborn Screening results reporting and tracking.

  • Oversee and participate in the data entry and verification of Newborn Screening demographics.

  • Monitors and distributes fax and online communications within Newborn Screening Units.

  • Prepares and distributes reports for submitters.

  • Maintains QC/QA Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Oversees and evaluates processes and updates standard operation procedures.

  • Prepares invoicing and finance operations.

  • Maintain, distribute, and track shipments of NBS cards and educational materials to hospitals, clinics, midwives, families, and other customers.

  • Provide project support for the NBS to ensure ongoing goals and objectives of the Public Health Laboratory, Newborn Screening Section are met.

This position currently has the option to telework a maximum three days per work week. (Must be a resident of MN, ND, SD, IA, or WI), however future work locations and telework schedules will be based on the business needs of the unit and supervisory discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience using/accessing electronic medical records and/or laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher may substitute for one year of experience; Associates degree may substitute for six months of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of public health and/or Newborn Screening.

  • Experience establishing rapport with healthcare professionals and colleagues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including culturally competent communication skills.

  • Ability to gather, track and understand summarized data and medical information.

  • Utilize manual and electronic faxing, effectively utilize email and calendars.

  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).

  • Understands and practice applicable standards for privacy of individually identifiable health information.

  • Understand and follow records retention and practices.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and as a member of a team.

  • Experience initiating and assisting with process improvement or other program initiatives.

  • Understand diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and how they can be applied in the workplace to promote an inclusive work environment for all.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide training for other laboratory employees, students, or other trainees, to support a collaborative team environment.

Physical Requirements

Occasional transportation of up to 25 pounds.
